In Your Own Voice: LGBTQIA+ Short Story Competition

Dudley Editions invites LGBTQIA+ writers and allies to submit original short stories for our summer storytelling spotlight.

We’re looking for fiction or non-fiction under 2,500 words that celebrates identity, connection, imagination, or quiet moments of truth. All genres are welcome as long as the stories are not explicit or gory.

Think: emotionally resonant, surprising, joyful, tender, strange, or bold.

Guidelines

  • • Fiction or non-fiction (no poetry this round)
  • • Max length: 2,500 words
  • • Submissions must be suitable for general audiences (no explicit or graphic content)
  • • Open to LGBTQIA+ writers and allies aged 18+

Deadline: June 27, 2025

Winners announced: July 5th, 2025

Up to ten stories chosen by our editors will be published on the platform as personalised audiobooks. Each winner will receive 10 share codes to give away to friends and family. These codes let recipients create a personalised audiobook version of the winning story, read in their own voice. If you are chosen for publication with Dudley Editions, you will be offered our standard author contract, which lays out our publication terms, including royalties.

Select, elligible stories will also be made available for others to purchase and share in the app.
